Do tours vary?
Tour meeting locations, routes, stops and food samples may vary due to many factors such as the day, time, season, public events, road closures, weather etc.

Are tickets refundable?
We only refund tickets bought directly from American Walks if we cancel your tour. If you cancel yourself with at least 24 hours notice you may reschedule. No-shows and cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will forfeit their tickets.
Transactions older than 4 months can not be refunded due to credit card processing companies rules.
Vouchers bought from third party deal sites such as Groupon and Goldstar are subject to their return policies.
Is there a lot of walking on the tours?
FOOD WALKS- Not a lot of walking. Spots are rarely more than a few blocks away and we rest at each destination.
These tours are handicap accessible and great for anyone.
HISTORY WALKS- History tours have significantly more walking. Between a mile and 2 miles of walking and are not recommended for anyone who can not walk and stand for long periods of time.
Where is the meeting spot for my tour?
Meeting spot locations are sent in your confirmation email when you register for a specific date. We do not list the meeting spots to prevent folks from showing up for a tour they are not registered for.
Do children require a ticket?
Children under 5 accompanied by an adult,
may take any tour for free.
Children 5 and up require a regular ticket.
Tours with alcohol are 21 and over only
except the Riverwalk tour and the
Underground Chicago walk are family friendly.
When should I schedule my tour?
Tours can fill up quick, especially in the summer.
We recommend scheduling your tour as soon as
you know the date. Tours with nobody scheduled
will be closed out 48 hours before the tour starts.
What happens if I am late?
Tours depart promptly at their scheduled times. Guests are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the tour. If you are running late, you can try to catch up with the group but there is no guarantee you will be able to reach the guide once the tour starts.
Who do I tip on the tour?
Tour guides rely on tips and appreciate being rewarded for good service. American Walks tips all the servers and bartenders on the food and beverage that is included in the tours.
Are tours family friendly?
Children are welcome on all our tours except the tours with alcohol. The Haunted History, Mobster and Prohibition Walks all have scandalous and/or scary subject matter and we leave it up to the parents to decide what age is appropriate for their child.
When are tours canceled ?
We cancel tours in extreme weather conditions and when there are less than 6 guests. Tours just aren't as much fun with just a couple people and we want all our guests to have a great time. You will be emailed and/or called at the address and number you provided in the event of a cancellation.
Are tours handicap accessible?
Most tours are. Some tours are more wheelchair "friendly" than others though. If you have any questions about a specific tour please
call or email us.
Can you accommodate my dietary restriction?
Most tours are vegetarian friendly and some tours can accommodate vegans, gluten restrictions and some allergies.
For specifics on each tour please contact us. Please let us
know ahead of time about any food restrictions so we can
try to accommodate.
Do we go inside each stop on the tour?
We go inside at almost every stop. In the few spots we dont, your tour guide will go inside, pick up the samples, and bring them outside to the group.
We always go inside and sit down at each stop on the beer and wine tours.
Are restrooms available on the tour?
Each tour has multiple restroom options and most food tours have restrooms
at every stop.
The only tours where we always have reserved seats are the tours with alcohol. The other tours vary with some samples being enjoyed inside the establishments or "sidewalk tastings". We sit down whenever possible.
Can I use my ticket or voucher for a different tour?
You sure can. We are happy to have you use your ticket or voucher on any of our tours of equal or lesser value.
Are tour stops subject to change?
The shops on our tours can change often. Occasionally a shop will close or a new shop we love will open. Sometimes a place has a private group or another reason why they can not accommodate us that day. We have many spots we use for each tour and the amount of stops and the samples are subject to change. Most guests get full on all our food tours (the underground pedway and river boat/riverwalk tours are more "exploration and history" tours with small samples along the way).
